In June 2024, we held 'What is Creative Criticism? A Colloquium' in Oxford, which gathered scholars invested in the categories that we use to define academic writing, and how experiments with creative criticism might confound or enliven them. See here for details.
In June 2025, we are thrilled to publish 'What is Creative Criticism? A Field Report on a Colloquium', an experimental record of the event. Its main design is to capture the ongoingness of thinking after such an event, and to ask about the shifts - formal, tonal, thematic - that occur when we translate live performance to printed text. The cluster, published with creativecritical.net, includes contributions from the original keynote speaker (Mary Cappello) and a selection of the original panelists, who have reworked their papers in various ways to reflect their newly legible appearance. It also features short responses from attendees of the conference, whose experiments are in light of or catalysed by the day's events.
